Retreat Classes

If you are staying for the whole weekend you can participate in as many classes as you would like. If you are staying for Saturday only, you may choose two classes.

1. Chenille Pillow 

Saturday evening at we will be entertained by the Blessings Team with a Trunk Show.

2. Chenille Tote Bag- 2 - 2 1/2 hour class

Need: 6 fat quarters in homespun, Fusible Web, Matching Thread, Pillow form 14" X 14" , Samples at Engine House

3.Chenille Vest       2 hours

1/2 yd homespun, 3 fat quarters for chenille, 1 yd lining, straps and pockets, fusible web. Samples at Engine HOuse.  Binding  - 1/2 yd,  Fusible web - 1/2 yd, matching thread and scraps for applique.  Samples at Engine House . 3 layers of homespun for Chenille  1 yd for L to XL, 3/4 yd for S to Med. Base of the vest - 1 yd for large to X large, 3/4 yd for small to med.

4. Elegant Garden Block #21 pattern by Adita Sitar (www.laundrybasketquilts.com) Beginner Applique  Finished wall hanging

Supplies:  12 x 12 ruler, fine point black permanent marker, glue sticks, paper scissors, fabric scissors, pins (glass head pins) Needle threader 

Fabrics: 3/4 yd. background fabric - also used in first and second borders and backing, 1/4 yd med circle, first border and binding, 1/8 yd sm circle and second border, 10" sq main body of flower, 5" sq. flower bud, 8" sq. leaves, 6" sq. lg. vine. 

Kit: $17 includes Pattern block, Plastic overlay 14" X 14" sq, Freezer paper, Placement pattern, applique needle and toothpick. 

16 X 22. Unfinished block is 12 1/2  X  12 1/2.

5. Hand Quilting    2 hours   Kit $18  includes lap frame, 12 1/2" X 12 1/2" block, batting, backing, Quilting needle

 

6. Mini Shipshewana Blessings.

Fabric kit and pattern set (for whole quilt): $35       2-2½ hour class 

We will learn how to draft pattern from 2½” block designs, and how to foundation-piece with Easy Tear by hand.

Supplies needed: needle, black cotton sewing thread, scissors, pen

7. 2 for 1 Foundation Piecing – Reversible Table Runner

Kit Fee $20 (includes fabric kit and pattern)

2-2½ hour class.

Learn the technique to foundation-piece reversible blocks in one step.

Supplies needed: sewing machine, scissors, pins

8. Quilting the Psalms

Kit Fee $10 (includes kit and block pattern).

Freezer Paper Appliqué 

Practice freezer paper appliqué and layering techniques during this one-hour class. The kit includes fabrics, freezer paper pattern, plastic overlay, and appliqué needle needed to make one 6” appliqué block from the Quilting the Psalms pattern. (Complete set of Psalms quilt patterns will be available to purchase.)

Supplies needed: Cotton appliqué thread – assorted colors, scissors

9. Katherine's Garden Trellis by Janis Nelson    50 X 66   2 hours

Supplies Needed:  Pattern, Threads to match fabrics, 6 x 6, 6 x 12, 6 x 24 and 12 1/2 X 12 1/2 Rulers, Rotary cutter, mat, scissors and seam ripper,  Fabrics Needed: 1 yd Med floral print no bigger then 4 1/2", 1 3/4 yd burgundy Floral print, 1/2 yd Dk green, 1 1/4 yd Med green, 2 1/4 yd cream for background.  Sample at the Engine HouseSaturday evening at we will be entertained by the Blessings Team with a Trunk Show.

Saturday Evening we will be entertained by Shipshewana Blessings. They will be doing a truck show at

Mystery Class Needs:
Feature Fabric (this is great for an all over floral) 1 7/8 yd cut into 6 strips, 10 1/2"x 40". Subcut into 42 rectangles 5 1/2"x 10 1/2"
Coordinate A, 2/3yd cut into 7 strips, 3"x40" subcut into 84 3"x3" squares.
Coordinate B, 2/3yd cut into 7 strips, 3"x40" subcut into 84 3"x3" squares.
Background, 1 1/4 yd cut into 7 strips 5 1/2"x 40" subcut into 84 rectangles 3"x5 1/2".
 
Coordinates A and B would look good either matching feature  or just being scrappy.
Border suggestions:
Border 1: 3/3yd
Border 2: 1/2yd
Border 3: 1 1/8
finsih size with the above borders 76"x86"
 
 
10.Dissappearing 9-patch AKA Twisted 9-patch
Pre cut squares at least 5" make them coordinating  or scrappy. Use 3 or more colors for each 9-patch.  Cut enough out for at least 9 blocks. WE will play with the blocks to see all the different possiblities. Bring along 2 yds of matching fabric for sashing and a border to complete a top. 
 
11.Crazy 9-patch AKA Shuffled 9-patch
Precut 9 squares of 12" or larger of assorted fabrics. The more of a contrast the crazier the patch. Bring along 2 yds coordinating fabric for sashing and border.
